Travel Activity... Journalling

We recently spent some time travelling around New Zealand in a campervan. It was great fun and I would love to do it again. I thought our holiday would be a perfect time to introduce the kids to journalling so before we left I bought:

  • Acid-free spiral bound A5 diaries
  • Some fabulous bright watercolours that were perfect for travelling (this is not a paid link I just LOVED them).
  • Small paintbrushes
  • A variety of artline fine felt tip markers
Every second day we all sat down and did some drawing and painting in our diaries. It was a combined family effort, Cakey and I often worked together on the same page. There was no right or wrong way to do this, we just painted what most appealed to us from the day. The best thing about this is now we have a lovely keepsake of our holiday.

  1. Wonderful idea! I wonder if you could provide more info on the diaries you chose...I always seem to pick something that's not quite right.
    Thanks for the post! :)

    1. Thanks for your kind comment. I bought my diaries from an art shop. The brand is 'Visual Art Diary'. They have 120 pages 100% Acid Free Paper and the paper 110gsm cartridge. They are not expensive - about $4.50 each. I like diaries with paper of a decent thickness so that the paper can take watercolour without ripping. They also have to be spiral bound so that the diaries can sit flat on the table. I hope this helps.
