Did you make leaf rubbings as a kid? Yes of course you did... it is a classic. There is something about the whole discovery aspect that makes rubbings so much fun. I keep a small batch of cheap, waxy crayons just for rubbings, these crayons are useless for drawing but are perfect for rubbings. Oil pastels (my favourite type of crayon) do not make very good rubbings. I don't know why.
Rainbow leaf rubbings – ferns work really well |
My next plan is to venture down the street with paper and crayons and see what textures we can find in the neighbourhood.

Wonderful. We had a "rubbing session" a couple of months ago and the kids loved exploring and see what happened. Great fun and great arty exploration.

This is such a great idea :) I personally love doing this but when I did ask Aarya to do it couple of months back- he was not interested :( I think I should try again :)
ReplyDeleteLast time I tried leaf rubbings with my kids they were not into it at all. But seeing your kids have so much fun with it, I think I'll have to try it again sometime. :-)
ReplyDeleteI remember creating texture rubbings with my friend. Great memories. It would be great if you linked up with Hobbies and Handicrafts.
