Rainbow chicken house

I will totally admit it – this was a lot me and a little bit them. Most of the time we make things according to my kids' interests BUT sometimes we make things because I want to. This time we made two rainbow chicken houses – somewhere for all our chickens to rest after a busy day playing at Chicken World.

While the kids were watching tv* (to be more specific – while Cakey was watching tv and Boo was watching Cakey watch tv) I made two little rainbow houses. I cut a box in half and then attached a rainbow-painted doily to each box with paddle pop sticks and sticky tape. (I already had a stash of doilies painted in rainbow colours in preparation for Cakey's rainbow-themed birthday party.)

I made two of these rainbow houses, one for each kid.

Boo has just started enjoying collage so I cut up some pieces of coloured paper and then turned off the tv. The girls and I glued down the paper pieces making patchwork floors for our chickens.

Cakey decided we needed a fence to keep the chickens in... so sensible. We built our fences out of playdough and matchsticks. Cakey used a lot of matchsticks to ensure that the chickens had no chance of escape. She then helped Boo add matchsticks to her fence. Boo didn't really want help!!

Chickens were added – they looked cold and tired. We got out our material scraps and Cakey chose some to use as blankets. I wrapped the chickens up in their blankets and Cakey put them to bed in milk bottle lids. Goodnight little chickens, sleep well.

* Before I had kids I always thought I wouldn't let my young kids watch tv and then I had kids and reality kicked in!!
